The Senior Resident Magistrate Court sitting at Kasungu has convicted and sentenced George Ezekeya, aged 31 to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor for rape.

According to Kasungu Police Station public Relations Officer Inspector Harry Namwaza Ezekeya committed the offence on December 8, 2019 at Longwe Village.

“Presenting facts in court, state prosecutor Sergeant Bonex Banda told the court that, during the night of that day, Ezekeya sneaked into the house where the victim was sleeping with her husband.

Disguising himself as the husband of the victim who at that particular time was on the same bed, but fast asleep, Ezekeya managed to have carnal knowledge of the victim without her recognising him”Said Namwaza.

He said as Ezekeya was in the middle of the act, the victim started noticing some strange things which prompted her realise it was not her husband.

“She then shouted to awaken the husband who started chasing the Ezekeya but he disappeared into a bush.

After, enquiries, it was discovered that Ezekeya was the one who had raped the victim and that he entered into the house using the main door whilst naked” Said he.

Namwaza further said Ezekeya pleaded guilty to the charge of rape and pleaded for a lenient sentence citing he was the first offender.

“However, Banda objected to Ezekeya’s request for leniency saying the circumstance in which the offence was committed could not merit a lenient sentence. Banda also told the court to look into the impact this will have on the life of the victim. Banda then requested the court to slap Ezekeya with a stiff punishment for others to learn a lesson”Said Namwaza.

George Ezekeya comes from Chakhala village, traditional authority Mponela in Dowa district.
