Chiefs in the area of traditional Authority Khongoni and Kabudula have pleaded with Management of Rhema Institute for Development to continue giving agricultural financing support in the area.
In an interview on behalf of the two Traditional Authorities, Senior Group Kasoni started by giving our reporters a report in which he said the project has done quiet a good job.
“Our people have managed to harvest from the crops which they grew through irrigation.” Said Kasoni.
He said there is need for Rhema to continue with the develop activities in the area asking other NGOs to emulate what Rhema is doing.
The Malawi leader His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who comes from the area has been fighting to see every household family food secured and let Malawians eat thrice a day.
Despite his government rolling Affordable Input Program (AIP) to achieve this using rain-fed Agriculture, RHEMA institute for development decided to help in implementing food security initiative by promoting irrigation farming in Senior Group Village Headman Kasoni’s area, Traditional Authority Khongoni, Lilongwe.
“Last year, we distributed maize seed, bean seed and vegetable seeds for irrigation farming to many here and encouraged these farmers to start irrigation farming, I tell you the returns of this initiative is so overwhelming” Director for RHEMA Innocent Semu narrated.
He added that many farmers have changed their living standards as they started gaining dividends of their initiative through sales of vegetables, fresh beans, green maize and at last, they have harvest lots of maize and beans, making many family households food secured.
Speaking to Afriem.org, Senior GVH Kasoni whose real name is Sosten William says his subjects soon will be self reliant with initiatives RHEMA is doing in his area.He applauded RHEMA for considering his area with all developmental initiatives which have bailed them out of hunger and poverty.
“I tell you what RHEMA has been doing in my area is extraordinary and if these initiatives are scaled up in many districts across the country, this country can develop so fast because as for people in my area, we are very geared for economic transformation through irrigation farming as spearheaded by RHEMA.” Snr GVH Kasoni explained.
RHEMA Executive Director hinted that the returns of their initiatives which are being praised by people in their catchment area are due to hard work of the people themselves and he promised that this year, their organisation will increase their catchment area to reach out to many farmers.
RHEMA is also carrying out Water and sanitation health issues in their catchment areas by drilling boreholes, building toilets in schools and hospitals.
It is also providing mushroom farming trainings as well as giving out domestic animals for pass on initiative.
