MERDEF loans had seen DPP officials led by President Mutharika’s aide, Dean Josaya Banda beaten, vehicles smashed and chased in Dowa on Monday in what many can describe this as political violence while its not.
The DPP officials went to Mbalila village, a village situated 2 to 3 kilometres away from the Dowa in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwere in the district to meet cadets who had gathered at the house of mai Angelina Chunga, a business lady, popularly known by the name ” Nangondo” as used to be called in the previous years when she was serving as MCPs Vice Secretary, League of Malawi Women for Dowa for loans filling forms while taking with them national ID cards.
Angry people mobilized themselves from the Dowa market and found the cadets busy recording ID card numbers while receiving Zitenjes and T-shirts to vote for ADADI during this coming First Presidential Election.
These people that descended at these officials pelted stones which resulted to them droving off the scene with their vehicles in speed to Dowa police station for protection and recording of statements.
…” I have been going to MERDEF office in Mponela and we were told to wait as Coronavirus pandemic is still persisting. We received a message that they are coming and I didn’t know that we will be meeting at my house. The loan is for DPP members and all who were here, are DPP,”…confessed mai Nangondo.
Dowa district is an all opposition MCP parliamentarians and ward councilors elected during the May, 2019 elections.
Former Dowa Central constituency legislator, Dr. Jean Nachika Kalilani, was twice voted in 2009 and 2014 under the DPP flag before losing the blue colours to a Black cock” Tambala wakuda” in the 2019 Tripartite elections marking burrying of DPP in the district.
