Save the Children is running a humanitarian support project in Neno.
Save the Children Project Officer , Macpherson Kapalamula in an interview said the E- payment method has been tried in Neno and has proven to be progressive and affective.
He said, before introduction of this method, beneficiaries were spending more time to collect their money but now all is water under the bridge.
Recently Save the Children organized a workshop in Lilongwe with two major agendas and these include sharing key observations during E- payment pilot phase in Neno as well as seeking input from stakeholders on how E – Payment model could be improved.
During the workshop, it was observed that E- payment ensures the security of members of staff during loan distributions meetings where everyone is invited together.
According to Kapalamula, Save the Children is now able to plan for the expenditures.
“We are able to plan properly for our expenditure and that when one receive a message of receiving the cash one is free of thinking whether to collect or not and continue doing development work as usual,” He said.
Kapalamula said, beneficiaries get their money easily even if not aware on Mpamba operations especially with the fact that 80% of the area is network coved through red.
Currently, it is estimated that 3963 beneficiaries have benefitted from E-Payment during the initial testing.
Kamalamula said venders could not increase the price of goods since they could not trace the cash flow from Save the Children and that cash outs could not trigger prices.
One of the beneficiaries, Vesta Portiphar from Maleta Village said she was happy with E –Payment mode.
She said she is able to cash her money anytime while doing her business as usual.
