Former MCP District Chairs resurfaces, Speak Out on leadership
By Malawi Exclusive
Malawi Congress Party former District Chairmen on Saturday held a joint press conference in Lilongwe where they castigated and spoke ill against Malawi Congress Party and its leader Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
Speaking during the press conference, led by Mchinji former District Chairman who has been decorating himself as Principal District Chair Foloma Mwale said its sad to note that the escalating wave of demonstrations have brought the country to a stand still.
According to the DCs the press conference was called as reality and fear are sinking because most party loyalists think Malawi Congress Party is not ready for another campaign because many people are disappointed with Chakwera’s leadership.
These Central Region district chairmen and secretaries denounced Dr Lazarus Chakwera that he has destroyed MCP with systemic leadership failure, violence and working with Chilima and HRDC.
Led by Foloma Mwale, District Chairman for Mchinji, many MCP inner-circle leaders are fearing that the Party has lost popularity in their stronghold and they may not be ready for an election.
The former chairs at the conference include Foloma Mwale Mchinji, George Chichitike Ntchisi, Bryson Chiphamba from Kasungu,
Limbani Charles from Dedza,
Goodwin Banda from Dowa
Chisenga from Kasungu,
Andrew Chanza of ntcheu and
Edward Mbewe from Nkhotakota.
The press conference an emerging confusion in the Malawi Congress Party ahead of the fresh elections. The district chairmen are understood to be custodians of the Party who control grassroots. They are the ones who have kept the Party since MCP came out of power in 1994.
A constitutional court in Malawi on Monday 3 February, 2020 nullified the election President Peter Mutharika won last May, citing massive irregularities during the process.
The verdict resulted from a court challenge filed by Saulos Chilima, leader of the opposition United Transformation Movement Party, and Lazarus Chakwera, leader of the Malawi Congress Party.
The court called for fresh elections within 150 days and also reinstated former Vice President Saulos Chilima.
Judge Healey Potani’s announcement of the verdict spurred instant celebrations from opposition supporters who attended the court session.
However MCP member who was also present at the conference said he was not happy with the approach by the former DCs.
He said the best way was to take their grievances to the party leadership.
He said these people have been in MCP all these years they cant know the poor leadership of MCP now.
