HESLGB respond to Covid, -19 extend 2020/21 Loans application window

Higher Students Loans Board (HESLGB)
has announced extension of 2020/21 application window from April 30 to May 31 2020, due to the effects of Corona Virus.
What it means is that students can still apply from April closing date to May 31 which is the current closing date.
Loans Board director of loans Emma Tambala was speaking in Lilongwe when she alongside Board Executive Director , Chris Chisoni addressed a press conference.
Mrs Tambala said the initially, the closing day was 30 April and the date has been extended to 31 May.
“The Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board (HESLGB) would like to inform students in all accredited institutions of higher learning and the general public that it has extended the 2020/2021 loan application window to 31st May 2020. This has been done to give students ample time to complete and submit their loan applications since all institutions of higher learning are currently closed due to the Government directive on Coronavirus (COVID-19).” She said.
She said that HESLGB is currently using two loan application methods;
Continuing Students from Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), College of Medicine (COM), Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN), University of Livingstonia (UNILIA), Malawi Adventist University (MAU), Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU), Pentecostal Life University (PLU), African Bible College (ABC), Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA), DMI St. John the Baptist University, Nkhoma University (NKHUNI), Daeyang University, and Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) are required to apply using the online application system (sfmis.heslgb.mw).
According to Mrs Tambala ,whereas all newly selected students and continuing students from institution of higher learning that are not listed above are required to apply using the hard copy loan application forms.
She said continuing students who are applying using hard copy loan application forms will be required to submit their duly completed loan application forms to the office the Registrar of their respective institutions of higher learning by hand or through post, whereas newly selected students will be required to submit their duly completed loan application forms directly to the HESLGB Secretariat through post office.

She said the 2020/21 loan application forms can be accessed from; all accredited institutions of higher learning, District Education Offices (DE0s), HESLGB Secretariat and on the HESLGB website (www.heslgb.mw).
“It should be noted that it is a MUST for all applicants to attach a copy of their National ID to their application and that the loan application process attracts a MK 3000 non-refundable fee which should be deposited into the board account Number 1001932884, National Bank of Malawi, Capital City Branch
