When Mutharika was first elected as Malawi President he thought on how he could transform this country through housing schemes.

That is why he launched Decent and Affordable Housing (Cement and Malata) Subsidy Programme (DAHSP) at Kambewe Primary School in the area of Chief Chadza in Lilongwe district which he said signifies his Government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of low income and vulnerable households. This was done on 18 December, 2014.

The problems is that Malawians forget so easily very easy to forget meaningful and tangible developments in favour of mediocrity.

This is what he said;
“This has been my dream to see Malawians live in houses that accord them the dignity they deserve.

Let us not spoil this opportunity which will not only improve the living conditions of rural Malawians but also create employment opportunities for many Malawians,” Said the president adding that DAHSP will also result in a major face lift of the country, especially in rural areas.

This the launch of this programme, we have seen alot of Malawians benefitting from the project across the divide.

Again on 14 March, 2015,  Malawi President Peter Mutharika officially launched Community Technical Colleges concept which he said will address employment issues as it is one of his dreams to provide skills training and development to the youth in the rural areas.

Already, International Labour Organisation is using the Malawi model as a model in Africa for the estbalishment and implementation of community colleges.

If I remember well this is what Professor Mutharika said at a ceremony which took place at Ngala Community College in northern district of Karonga.

 “It is not only white collar jobs that will develop our country,  Technical and vocational jobs are an important means of development and self sufficiency because they provide and achieve a turnaround in poverty indicators, if our people, especially the youth, are given Technical, Entrepreneurialship and Vocational Training.”

As we are talking now alot of youths have graduated through this exercise.
Youths have employed themselves after graduating from this Mutharika initiative.

He said countries such as German, India, China, Japan, England, U.S.A and others have become major industrial powers because they have emphasized skills development as a priority.

So its time that Malawians should reflect deeply on how the Mutharika vision could well be supported so that Malawi could achieve social , political, and economic transformation.
