MCC impressed with Clean up and Beautification Campaign progress

Mzuzu, March 6, Mana: Vice Chairperson for Clean and Beautification Campaign in Mzuzu City Council (MCC), Zohra Matundu said her committee was impressed with the progress of the initiative.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) Friday in Mzuzu, She said there was great improvement in waste management and collection in both business and residential areas in the city since the launch of the initiative in November 14, 2020.
“Am very impressed with the campaigns impact on MCCs efforts in maintaining the city clean, however some residents and business people continue dumping waste at undesignated places,” Matundu noted.
She said residents need to change their mindset change and own the initiative which she said if embraced by stakeholders, the city would be free from water and sanitation related diseases.
“To address this challenge, we will soon be engaging community radio stations to assist us in sensitizing and mobilizing people to support the initiative.”
“The team is working on introducing radio programs which will run on community radios so that the citizens are educated about the campaign and own it,” Matundu added.
One of the residents in Mzuzu City, Esther Phiri expressed disappointment with low public participation in making the initiative a success.
“We together need to own the initiative because it is for our own good,” she suggested.
