Vice President of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Sidik Mia has described the choice to join the party by Blantyre City East Parliamentarian John Bande as a clear sign that the party is gaining ground and deepening its strength in the Southern Region.
Mia who is also Minister of Transport said this at Mkolokoti School Ground whe he, alongside other party officials welcomed Bande into the MCP fold.
The MCP Veep applauded Bande for his good reputation and for practising civilised politics, which worked as an attractive scent for the party to undoubtedly welcome him when he knocked on the party’s door.
Said Mia: “The good reputation especially hard working spirit by Honourable Bande remains an attractive element for the party leadership to happily receive him as we strongly believe that his coming in will help in further streghtening the party.”
In his remarks, Bande said he was overwhelmed by the grand welcoming into MCP and promised he had entered into the party to roost.
“I can assure you all that I have come in to stay,” said the soft spoken Bande.
He therefore expressed his desire to see some key roads in his constituency getting constructed together with other constituency level projects.
Bande who won on an Independent ticket in the last 2019 parliamentary election had prior to the Fresh Presidential Election endorsed the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and its torch bearer Peter Mutharika.
Particularly in the Southern Region, Bande has become the fourth to join MCP in the post election period after Tony Ngalande of Balaka North and two others in Nsanje district; Eurita Ntiza of Nsanje South West and Ramsan Mahomed Juma of Nsanje South.
