Nankhumwa donates K0.5Million to Mayani

Barely weeks after Mayani Secondary School was shut down due to Bedbucks outbreak,the Alumni association of the schools quickly responded to the situation in trying to find lasting solution.
The outbreak had disrupted end of term exams and forced the school authorities to close the institution as they feared the worst.
To solve the problem,the Alumni association resolved to hiring a contractor to do a thorough fumigation exercise aimed at wiping out the outbreak once
and for all.
As one way of giving back to the school; the former headboy who is now the Minister of Agriculture,an MP and leader of government business in parliament;gladly stepped in with a personal contribution of nearly 500,000 Malawi kwacha towards the cause.
In his remarks when he was addressing teachers and fellow Alumni before presenting the cheque; Nankhumwa urged the teachers to engage and collaborate with parents and local community leaders in taking care of the facility.
He noted that the school is facing numerous challenges that can be managed if all stakeholders are to embrace mindset change and take responsibility of taking care of the facility.
Before addressing the gathering, the Minister toured students hostels,cafeteria and the assembly hall where he appreciated various challenges the schools is facing.
Also present at the function was the Member of Parliament for Dedza East Hon Kwafwafwa who also happened to be Hon.Nankhumwa’s class mate at Chitundu Primary School at Mayani.
Mayani Secondary School opened its doors in 1993 and Hon.Kondwani Nankhumwa was selected to this school from Chitundu Primary School in 1994.He served as the Chairperson of Writers club and finally as the School Headboy in 1997/98.
