Police officers deserve descent houses
By Malawi Exclusive
Time in memorial there has been an outcry from the mouths of many a people. This outcry is on the status of the housing structures our men in uniform call home.
The police department is one of the most neglected departments in the country where housing is concerned. The kitchen like structures that they call home not only are they demeaning but they are embarrassment to the force.
This is is evident in the rude comments the officers get from public where they are enforcing the regulations and laws. Much more where that involves the exchange of that legal tender, money, makwacha! How can you who lives in a kitchen ask me to that?
Worldwide Construction company entered into a contractual agreement with the government of Malawi to build housing units befitting an officer of the law. Imagine an officer living in a decent three bed-roomed apartment!
Here is the catch!
Malawi Police Service has a deficiency to decent housing. Most of their noble officers besides living in allocated housing, they live in dwelling structures that leave alot to be desired. Not only are they poorly maintained, but they do not fit a middle income working class family.
I am happy to say that the contractual agreement that exists between government of Malawi and worldwide construction company offers light in the end of the tunnel to a dream of better housing for the officers.
However for this to happen there’s a need to relocate the officers for Ccompany Area 2 premises to a new location. This location is one that the parties to the contract is going to construct for them.
Worldwide Construction Company will among other things, construct 3 bed-roomed housing units that will be allocated to the officers, a dormitory where 8 officers will be housed per room in a 150 person building. Isn’t it a catch? How about if those dormitories are two?
Besides the construction of the housing units, the dormitories, a carpark, the construction company will offer employment to many Malawians, in human resources requirements for the construction projects, will further furnish the new Police office complex. That is an icing on the cake right?
I thought so too until i heard that they will only take over the ownership of the land in the agreement upon completion of the project. Now that’s a catch.
