Public uproar over MBC, calls for DG resignation
Minds in Malawi are boiling calling for the resignation of senior management at the public broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation starting with Director General, Aubrey Sumbureta for putting the radio into disrepute.
This follows a picture of obscene and corybantic language at the MBC Tv during their Chichewa 7 PM Prime news.
Despite the public apology, Malawians have already made their minds calling for the resignation of MBC Sumbureta for the scandal.
According to the reaction on the social media, it is believed that the post was deliberately posted to discredit Malawi Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima.
The obscene words has been a shame and a total disgrace to Malawians who finances it through tax funds for them to beam obscene words on State Vice President, Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima.
Ralph Kasambala on his facebook page says in a liberal democracy with effective leadership by now, heads would have been flying all over radios and TVs apologizing not just to the State Vice President, Dr. Chilima and his family but to all Malawians who have been debased by watching and reading such immoral statements on MBC.
Kasambala says if the State President, Prof. Peter Mutharika and MACRA can sleep over such incident for MBC to vomit against a sitting State Vice President, and Mutharika just watching his minister responsible for Information, Malawi has gone to dogs.
MBC has unconditionally apologized to all Malawians for a picture containing vulgar language which it carried saying the picture was erroneously used, the beaming of the said picture with such vulgar words was not a deliberate action on their party, it was out of a serious over- site on the part of those responsible for editing and quality control.
In the statement by MBC management with the subject, ” Public Apology” MBC says its editorial policy doesnot in any way condone the use of vulgar language in any mode on any of their platforms.
“This serious mishaps is sincerely regretted. Steps are being taken to remedy the same. As we have always done before, this unfortunate incident, we pledge to endeavour a thorough check of our content before it is brought on the public platform,” reads the apology in part.
MBC is stating that the vulgar language and the views expressed in the picture were not theirs, they don’t represent the values they stand for, promote.
Meanwhile, Malawians angered by how MBC is abusing their tax through beaming and airing castigating messages against opposition leaders will meet at the Lilongwe Community Centre ground in a Youth Momentum,” MBC MUST SHUT DOWN DEMONSTRATIONS FOR THEIR TAX “.
The demonstrations are slated to end at MBC mema studios starting at 8 oclock, Wednesday.
