United Religions Initiative has called the youths in the country to be Ambassadors of peace.
URI national coordinator Godfrey Manasseh was speaking in Lilongwe during an interface meeting.
Similar meeting was also held in Lilongwe on 28th August 2020.
Manasseh said youths in the country have a big role in ensuring peace and political tolerance at all costs.
He said actually the misunderstandings are coming in because of some few factors.
“We have left out one important element of learning and understanding each other faith and there is need as youths to wake up and advocate for peace.” Said Sheikh Chienda.
He said as a country “We have allowed ourselves to remain ignorant of what others believe hence we feel that our set of belief are greater than others now youths have a big role to play by allowing themselves to learn or be exposed to what others believe especially Islam and Christianity.” Said Chienda.
He said the meeting was very important because will help the youths to learn importance of peace and tolerance in this country regardless of religious affiliations.
Manasseh said all institutions rely on youths for them to implement their programs saying evening political parties depend on youths.
“Since multiparty politics Malawi has been having party wings to use for political goals so there is need for our youths to embrace leadership so that they are able to be involved in decision making rather than being used.” He said.
One of the participants Lukiya Gaveni from Moslem community said commended URI for the training.
Gaven said he will use skills gained from the training to advance peace.
During the training youths were given opportunity to learn how to reduce violence and conflict management.
But Manasse added that religious interfaith where we have people of different faith is very important because its a platform aimed at teaching each other without prejudice.
Manasseh said United Religions Initiative being a global grassroots interfaith peace building network will continue with these peace building initiative training.
